What is this?

This is a wilderness preparedness course designed for outdoorsmen, those participating in any high-adventure activity, or any situation when emergency care is delayed such as a post-storm or post-disaster event. This course takes “Wilderness First Aid Basics” to a new level, increasing the chance for survival following any delayed-care incident.

When is this?

This course will include 16 hours of classroom and hands-on scenarios based on actual situations over two-days (Saturday and Sunday).

SELA Council Service Center – Conference Room (2nd Floor)

4200 S. I-10 Service Rd. West, Metairie, Louisiana 70001

Can I take this course?

Prerequisites to the course include:

  • A minimum age of 14
  • Current adult CPR/AED certification (This course is NOT for CPT/AED certification)
  • Physical ability to participate in all activities

Your certification will be valid for two years.

Why should I take this course?

The original “Wilderness First Aid Basics” was developed by the Transylvania County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Brevard, NC in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America. This new course and similar courses are now essential training for Philmont, Northern Tier, Sea Base, and The Summit participants. It is also ideal training for the camper, outdoorsman or anyone who may find themselves in a delayed-response situation.

Okay, I’m in. What’s next?

Due to the complexity of the course, the size of the class is strictly limited. Pre-registration and payment is required to secure your attendance in the class.

The discounted price of the course is $110.00 per person and includes use of textbook and supplies, Red Cross certification card and a custom patch for your uniform or collection.

I can’t make this one. Is there another course scheduled? Or, This course is full, help!

Cancellation Policy
The following policy statement is applicable to all council and district activities where a fee is collected by the Southeast Louisiana Council. Online convenience fees (if applicable) are not refundable. All activities are considered non-refundable, unless there is a medical emergency or a death in the immediate family. Refund requests will only be considered if made in writing. A service charge of twenty-five percent (25%) of the activity fee will be assessed on all refunds to cover the costs incurred in preparation of the activity and processing the refund. Written refund requests must be submitted prior to the start of any event. Any requests after the activity will be considered only for personal illness or family emergencies. Fees are only transferable within the same unit to a Scout or adult leader not currently registered for that specific activity. If an activity is canceled or postponed due to weather, every effort will be made to reschedule the activity. If an activity is canceled and the participant cannot participate during the alternate date, the full fee will be refunded minus any service fees and costs incurred by the event prior to the cancellation. This amount may vary from event to event. Send all refund requests to the Program Director at: tracy.jones@scouting.org.
