Thank you for supporting the Southeast Louisiana Council and the Boy Scouts of America! Charter Renewal is an annual process to verify active registered Scouts and leaders, adding new Scouts and leaders, removing Scouts and leaders no longer involved, and re-affirming relationships with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). This year’s charters for all Cub Scout Packs, Scout BSA Troops, Crews, Exploring Posts and Ships in Southeast Louisiana Council expire on January 31st, and need to be renewed.

Units should plan to complete charter renewal via the National Internet Charter Renewal System by January 15th, to allow time for processing before the end of the month. On-time charter renewal of your unit is important. Instructions provided below will assist in the charter renewal process. The person processing a unit’s charter renewal can stop and exit the system at any time and pick up where they previously stopped. The Charter Renewal System is tied into the Internet Advancement website and has been designed to make charter renewal quick and easy! Access to the system will be at https://advancements.scouting.org.  Online Charter Renewal is best accessed using Chrome or Firefox.  It will not work with Internet Explorer.

We recommend printing your recharter and submitting to the Council Office with payment. While the entire process can be completed online, no refunds will be issued if there are errors with the online recharter paperwork.

  • There are several great resources available to you at http://scouting.org/resources/internet-rechartering

  • A member of the Unit Key 3 (Charter Organization Rep, Committee Chairman, Unit Leader) or any Key 3 delegate can submit the renewal.  No need to wait! You can begin the recharterprocess today!

  • Re-charter is done through Internet Advancement 2.0 at https://advancements.scouting.org/login

  • Log in using your my.scouting credentials into the Internet advancement site and start reviewing who is registered, who is missing, and who needs to be updated.

  • You can reach out to your Unit Commissioner or your District Executive if you need any assistance!

What Do We Do After Completing Charter Renewal Online?

  • Retain a copy of the charter renewal for your records – either save electronically or print and file in a safe location.  Include copies of all attachments (Scout applications, adult applications, YPT certificates , and CBC authorizations)
  • To pay by check, please submit it to the Council Service Center by January 15th.  These can be delivered in person or mailed to:

Youth Protection Policy

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for each adult on the unit charter. All adults registered in Scouting in the Southeast Louisiana Council must maintain current Youth Protection Training certification. Youth Protection Training is valid for a period of two years. Be sure all adults have current YPT certification before you start charter renewal. In addition, every new Adult Application must include a Youth Protection Training certificate.

You will not be able to complete your charter renewal if any registered adult has expired YPT certification.  Training can be completed online through my.scouting.org.

Update On Council Program Fee

In 2021, we implemented a Council Program Fee of $60 per Scouting Family to help bridge the gap between the cost of the program and our available sources of funding.  In 2022 we were able to reduce the fee to $40 per family.  We pledged to Do Our Best to reduce and/or eliminate the Fee as quickly as we could. We are proud to announce that through the hard work of everyone who manages the Scouting experience, we’ve been able to again reduce the Council Program Fee for 2024 to $20 per family. A Scout is Thrifty. We are a committed to keeping the program affordable for everyone. We will continue to work on reducing this fee until we reach a point where it is no longer necessary. We thank you for your participation in Scouting and value your partnership.

As Scouting Units prepare to set their annual dues for the upcoming season, here’s the fee schedule to use:

  • Youth Registrations – $80/year Effective August 1st
  • Adult Registrations – $60/year Effective August 1st
  • New Youth Joining Fee – $25 one-time fee
  • Southeast Louisiana Council Program Fee (youth only/per family) – $20/year
  • $7.00 per person for accident and auto insurance
  • Scouts Life Subscription (optional) – $15/year or $1.25/month
  • Unit Recharter Fee-$100 (paid by the unit)
