Salmen Scout Reservation needs more C.O.P.E. & Climbing Staff! When trained as an instructor, you can facilitate C.O.P. E. or Climbing weekend activities for your own unit or others, or serve on camp staff. You must be registered with a Troop or a Venturing Crew, and be at least 16 years old to become an Instructor in Training, at least 18 to be a Level I Instructor, or at least 21 to be a Level II Instructor.
Please note: January 10th is just the initial training date. See below for other training dates. To complete Level II training certification, you must complete 53 total hours which can be achieved in multiple training dates. Once you register for the first date, you must contact Richard Thompson to arrange for the dates you will attend to complete the course.
The C.O.P.E. & Climbing Committee offers training courses to give you the knowledge and skills needed to become a BSA Instructor, but you can get practical training when helping to staff any C&C event. The courses involve a combination of classroom work and hand-on training in skills for climbing, rappelling, rigging and rescues for Climbing Instructors, and similar high and low course skills for C.O.P.E. Instructors. Successful completion of training and testing leads to certification as a BSA Instructor. We encourage all our instructors to be cross-trained for both C.O.P.E. and Climbing.
