The first phase of the Camp V-Bar dam repairs began on February 11th with work on the spillway. To stabilize the spillway for future use, Helms Contractors, LLC of Ridgeland, Mississippi, injected a structural, expanding polyurethane resin to fill voids and lift approximately 550 square feet of the spillway. The work occurred over the course of three days and involved drilling a series of 5/8” holes through the concrete surface in three rows in an alternating grid pattern. The workers then injected the specialty resin through galvanized rods into the subsurface. Utilizing a combination of beam jacks, deep and subsurface injections, the settled section of the concrete near the outflow edge of the spillway was successfully lifted and undersealed. And, the workers also performed injections on the lakeside of the spillway to underseal and stabilize this area. Overall, the contractor achieved a result allowing for a permanent solution to the settlement and undermining of the spillway that has been occurring over a number of years.

The next phase of the dam work will commence on April 20th when units from the U.S. Air Force Reserve began arriving at camp. By the end of the June, the work to be done should result in a rehabilitated dam that will serve camp visitors for many years into the future.
