Important Volunteer Update: Required Training Deadline Has Passed – Here's What You Need to Know

As many of you are aware, Scouting America recently implemented updated adult volunteer training requirements designed to strengthen youth protection, improve volunteer preparedness, and ensure a consistent program experience across the movement.

With the national completion deadline now having passed, some volunteers may find that they are experiencing challenges accessing certain systems, viewing their positions, or maintaining active registration status due to incomplete training records or account-related issues.

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the concerns many volunteers have shared regarding training access, login difficulties, duplicate accounts, and membership record discrepancies. We understand these situations can be frustrating, especially for dedicated volunteers who are actively serving youth and attempting to complete required requirements.

The good news is that most issues can be resolved quickly with the appropriate assistance.

What Should You Do Immediately?

If you have not completed the required training:

  1. Log in to My.Scouting.org immediately and review your training dashboard.
  2. Complete any outstanding required training courses as soon as possible.
  3. Notify your Unit Key 3 leadership once training has been completed.
  4. Allow several days for training records to synchronize throughout Scouting America's systems.
  5. Contact the Southeast Louisiana Council Service Center if your records do not update appropriately.

If your registration status has been impacted due to training compliance, prompt completion of the required training is the first and most important step toward resolution.

Experiencing Login Problems?

Many volunteers experiencing difficulties accessing My.Scouting.org are discovering they have multiple membership identification numbers (Member IDs) associated with their account.

This commonly occurs when a volunteer:

• Transfers between councils.
• Registers in multiple positions over time.
• Registers as both a parent and leader.
• Creates a new My.Scouting.org account using a different email address.
• Has historical registrations dating back many years.

Duplicate Member IDs can prevent training records, registrations, and position information from displaying correctly.

If you suspect you have more than one Member ID, contact the Southeast Louisiana Council Service Center for assistance. Staff can work with Scouting America's Member Care team to review and merge records when appropriate.

Why Merging Duplicate Accounts Matters

Having multiple Member IDs can create several issues, including:

• Missing training records.
• Incomplete position information.
• Incorrect renewal notices.
• Difficulty accessing unit tools.
• Delays in processing registrations.
• Communication challenges between volunteers, units, councils, and Scouting America.

Consolidating records into a single Member ID improves data accuracy and helps ensure you receive important communications and maintain access to volunteer resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I completed my training, but My.Scouting.org still shows me as incomplete. What should I do?

A: First, verify that you completed the training under the correct account. If you have more than one Member ID, your training may have been recorded under a different profile. Contact the council service center for assistance.

Q: How do I know if I have multiple Member IDs?

A: Signs may include missing training records, duplicate profiles, multiple registration histories, receiving duplicate emails, or seeing different membership numbers associated with various positions.

Q: How do I merge multiple Member IDs?

A: Contact the Southeast Louisiana Council Service Center and provide:
• Your full name.
• Current email address.
• Known Member ID numbers.
• Unit number(s).
• Any previous names or email addresses used for registration.

A: Attempt to reset your password first. If access issues continue, contact the council service center for assistance identifying your correct account and Member ID.

Q: Who should I contact if I need help?

A: Volunteers needing assistance should contact the Southeast Louisiana Council Service Center. Staff members are available to help troubleshoot account access issues, identify duplicate Member IDs, and coordinate record corrections with Scouting America.

Moving Forward

Our volunteers are the foundation of Scouting, and we appreciate your patience as these national system and training requirements continue to evolve. We encourage all volunteers to verify their My.Scouting access, review their training records, and ensure their membership information is accurate.

Taking a few minutes now to confirm your records can prevent future registration, renewal, and communication issues while helping us continue delivering a safe and effective Scouting program to the youth we serve.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Scouting and the young people of Southeast Louisiana.
