Adventure Weekend - February 24, 2024

Presented by
Southeast Louisiana Council
Camping & Outdoor Programs Committee

Note:  Effective 9/1/2023, ALL adults staying overnight MUST be currently registered as an adult volunteer.  Units must ensure compliance with this policy.

Adventure Weekend - the new addition to the calendar for 2024.  It is the winter version of Shoot, Swim & Climb (but without the swimming - LOL!)   Adventure Weekend will have the FUN activities of Summer Camp rolled into one day. The shooting ranges, and climbing tower will all be open.  Be sure to get a cold (warm!) drink in the Trading Post.

Scouts will be able to participate in a variety of activities, including:

  • reactive target shooting
  • shotgun range with 3 trap houses

  • archery

  • climbing and rappelling

  • mountain bikes for "rent"

  • table-top gaming in Dining Hall - a variety available, or bring your own
  • garden chess
  • trading post

The activities are geared towards Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts & Explorer Post age youth only.  (We are unable to provide activities appropriate for younger youth.

The event is designed to be what we call FREE STYLE. This is an event with very limited scheduling. Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts & Explorers will rotate between activities at their own pace selecting which activities they would like to participate in. Keep in mind that this is a very large event and there may be lines at some of the activities. In the case of a long line the scouts can move on to another activity and return later when the lines are a little shorter.

  • Meals:
    • We will serve lunch on Saturday at 12:00 in the dining hall.
    • All other meals are the responsibility of the Unit.
  • Registration
    • Units MUST use the online registration process. Please register as a Unit rather than multiple individual registrations.
    • Campsite request - use the link above to see how many campers have already asked for each campsite.  Please understand that you may not get the site you requested.  We have a lot of campers, and a limited amount of space.
    • Day Only - just coming up for the day?  Select "No Campsite - Day Only"
  • Arrival
    • Units should arrive no earlier than 6:00p on the Friday night. Someone will be at the front gate to greet you and give you directions.
    • Units arriving late Friday (after ~9:00p) or on Saturday should check in at the Administration building in the center of camp
    • All Units should have Annual Health & Medical Records (Parts A & B only are required) for all campers, both youth and adults
  • Shooting
    • All shooting participants will attend a safety briefing when they first come to the ranges, where they will then receive an armband.
  • Climbing
    • All climbers will have their health form reviewed.  Leaders should group climbers with health concerns (e.g. wasp allergies or restrictions on strenuous activities) first to expedite the review. Climbers will be given an armband to indicate the medical review.
    • Climbers without an armband should bring their AHMR for review when they first come to the Tower, and receive an armband.

We hope everyone has a great time,

Y.I.S.

Cancellation Policy
The following policy statement is applicable to all council and district activities where a fee is collected by the Southeast Louisiana Council. Online convenience fees (if applicable) are not refundable. All activities are considered non-refundable, unless there is a medical emergency or a death in the immediate family. Refund requests will only be considered if made in writing. A service charge of twenty-five percent (25%) of the activity fee will be assessed on all refunds to cover the costs incurred in preparation of the activity and processing the refund. Written refund requests must be submitted prior to the start of any event. Any requests after the activity will be considered only for personal illness or family emergencies. No refund requests will be accepted after ten (10) days following the end of the activity. Consideration for a full (minus charges and costs incurred) refund will be considered for special hardship cases and for advanced-level training courses such as Wood Badge. For major activities that require a non-refundable deposit, such as council contingents to the National Jamboree and Philmont, a full refund less the non-refundable deposit will be considered based on the time of the request and the council's ability to fill the slot with another participant. If the slot is not able to be filled, no refund will be available. No refunds of any fees are available until 30 days after the event. Refund checks will be issued to the individual or entity paying the original fee within 30 days of receipt of the request pending its approval. Fees are only transferable within the same unit to a Scout or adult leader not currently registered for that specific activity. If an activity is canceled or postponed due to weather, every effort will be made to reschedule the activity. If an activity is canceled and the participant cannot participate during the alternate date, the full fee will be refunded minus any service fees and costs incurred by the event prior to the cancellation. This amount may vary from event to event. Send all refund requests to the Program Director at: tracy.jones@scouting.org.
