Ten Commandments Hike - Friday, November 29, 2024
Make plans to attend the upcoming Ten Commandments Hike sponsored by the Southeast Louisiana Council and taking place on the Uptown streets of New Orleans. This interfaith hike has ten stops along its route at various houses of worship where one of the Ten Commandments is revealed to the hikers. The hike will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Street parking is encouraged nearby to the location at Zimple and South Carrollton Avenue. Other stops will include representatives of the Catholic, Protestant, Islamic and Jewish faiths. Participants will receive a special event patch, a streetcar token and water.
PLEASE NOTE; Hikers must provide their own lunches. No hot meals will be served during the lunch break. The route for younger Cub Scout-age participants is four miles mostly along historic St. Charles and Carrollton Avenues and, once it ends, participants will board streetcars to return to the starting point. The hike is intended to foster understanding of different faiths, breed religious tolerance, and promote the 12th Point of the Scout Law (“A Scout is Reverent.”) while also encouraging physical fitness.
